I need to be honest, this little tool is one of my favorites. Who never failed by entering coordinates into a GPS with the 4 digits given on the task sheet ? Who never forgot the last 0 at the end of the coordinates ? This is now an old story, because WPT Tool is able to create waypoints by entering the 8 numbers given on the task sheets (1234/5678), and little extra, we can directly enter the radius of the MMA, lot of time won !
This what looks like WPT Tools once launch :
To create a waypoint, it’s easy, we enter the name of the waypoint ( for example here FON), the 4 digits coordinates (here 1234/5678), and a radius, if you need to draw the MMA by example (here 100m). Then, we click on “Make Waypoint”, a little on the map, and it’s done !
The “Move” functionality can move a waypoint on the East/West axe, and North/South axe. It’s useful if somebody announces that the target is in real 50m off from the coordinates. We select first the waypoint to move, the tool shows us the coordinates, the altitude and we can move by using the arrows. The little arrows move 10m by 10m. The big arrows move 100m by 100m. “Reset” button will reset all, and waypoint will be at the original position.
Last functionality of the WPT Tools, the possibility to read the 4 digits coordinates of a waypoint. Very useful when we choose a FON on the map and we need to declare it into the FAI logger. For that, we just need to select the waypoint, and the WPT Tool will show the 4 digits coordinates, and the altitude. We just have to enter the coordinates into the logger, and it’s done !
